ABOUT GEORGE
George Economou is a consultant with AEllc. George is a lawyer with over 40 years’ practice experience and is based in Athens, Greece, managing G. C. Economou and Associates Law Firm, an affiliate of AEllc.
George is an English barrister (a tenant of Quadrant Chambers on Fleet Street, London) and an advocate of the Supreme Court of Greece. Until recently, he was also an advocate of the Supreme Court of Cyprus.
George has extensive experience of all aspects of shipping and ship finance, both as counsel and as an expert witness - in England on Greek law and in Greece on English and Cyprus law - and in arbitration in both England and Greece. He has served on the board of various companies with cross-border involvements and his expertise in international company law, tax planning, corporate restructuring, wealth management and trusts is second-to-none. Clients include banks, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals worldwide.
George is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a past president of the Mediterranean Maritime Arbitration Association, based in Genoa, and on the panel of arbitrators and experts of the Chambre Arbitrale Maritime de Monaco, the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commerce and Industry, the ICC (Cyprus Branch) and the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce. He is also a qualified dispute resolver and a member of the Academy of Experts.
George is a contributor to international publications on shipping, tax planning, dispute resolution, international investments and finance.
George is a member of the IBA, the IFA, the ITPA, the Hellenic Association of Maritime Law, the Hellenic Association of European Law, the Greek Association for Insurance Law, the Hellenic Association of Tax Law and a fellow of the Center for International Legal Studies.br
